• Advocate Jessy Kurian is a practising lawyer in the Supreme Court of India for last 17 years. • She was the Member of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, Govt of India • She is the first nun in the church to became a member of a Quasi-judicial body of the Government • She is the first nun to work with Union Government • She is the first and only lawyer of Sisters of St.Ann (SSA) • She is the founder President of an NGO called "Citizens Rights Trust" to promote Human Rights, Legal Literacy and Women Empowerment • She is a Human Rights activist and a social activist • Member of Gender Sensitisation Committee of the Supreme Court • A resource person sought after EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: She completed • B.A in Kerala University, • B.Ed in Usmania University, • M.A in Kakatya University, • M.Ed in Madhurai University and • LL.B in Bangalore University BACK GROUND: She is basically from academic field. She was the Principal of various Educational institutions about 10 years in Hyderabad. During those years she witnessed the plights of the poor citizens and therefore, she resigned her principalship as the Principal of a College in 2002 to do LL.B to defend the rights of the poor. She completed her study of law, LL.B in Bangalore University in 2005. In 2005 itself, she enrolled herself with the Bar Council of Delhi and took membership in the Supreme Court Bar Association and began to practice in the Supreme Court PRESENT ACTIVITIES: She works with national and international networking She practises in Supreme Court, various High Courts in India, Commissions, Tribunals, and all Courts in Delhi. Practices civil and criminal side She mainly takes up the cases relating to Human Rights Violations, Issues related to women, children and in particular Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.
