Women Are Now Role Models for Youth and Society by ALL LADIES LEAGUE

March 5, 2013; Kaithal, Haryana: Delivering a highly inspirational talk on “Surviving the Odds: How to Overcome Our Emotional Fears and Mental Blocks,” Ms. Terri Wingham, a breast cancer survivor, told the 500 girls at NIILM University, “To greatly value the free education given to them by the University, as like her, they too were getting a second chance to live their lives fully and deeply, as nothing empowers us more than education – our own skills, capability and values.”

Dr. Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson, ALL LADIES LEAGUE said, “In view of recent events that have increased the sense of fear and helplessness in women, we wanted to reinstill faith and a fighting spirit in these young girls who are at the threshold of entering the larger society as employees and entrepreneurs. Not only they have to fend for themselves but they also have to support their families as well as become role models for their siblings back home and for the youth in villages.”

Dr. Rita Sachdev, Pro Vice-chancellor, NIILM University says, “Like Ms. Wingham, the young girls at NIILM University who come from the marginalized sections across 22 countries, have also survived traumas and tribulations in their families, but with the support of university’s free education and with the sisterhood they find here with other girls like them, they have found their strength and hope again.”

The talk session ended with a stimulating questions & answers session amongst the students and the panelists. One of the students, Laxmi Devi Homagai, who comes from Bhutan said, “The speakers have motivated us to face our challenges. They are role-models for us. We want to become like them.”
