Urban agriculture’s technology and methods to reduce ecological footprint

Ecological footprint is a measure of human demand on ecosystems across the planet. In fact, it is the degree of influence of humans on nature. Urban agriculture, compared to conventional agriculture, reduces the ecological footprint of mankind – It can be explained by minimizing transport of food from countryside to metropolitan areas, reducing the amount of food that require storage and cooling, minimizing food waste, narrowing the use of land for agriculture, and thus also, minimizing the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides and increase biological diversity. Those benefits sound good, but do we have the technology and the methods to make this system work in the city?
