Sahatqija holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electronics and Computer Sciences Engineering from the University of Pristina in Kosovo. In addition to that she also completed the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Dartmouth College in the United States. Ms. Sahatqija is as well Certified Digital Transformation Expert, and in proces of certification ans CMC- Certified Management Consultant
After university she worked as a Maintenance Engineer and Software Programmer in a textile company Printeks, Prizren, and continued as a manager of the computer center at a food production company Ereniku in Gjakova.
Between 1998 and 1999 Mrs. Sahatqija worked in OSCE and UN Mission to Kosovo as Comms and IT Officer in Kosovo and Albania, while later launching her own Motorola radio network communication business venture. She conducted many trainings and computer courses teaching many cohorts of different backgrounds in using Internet, MS Office, HTML etc. During her trainings she was especially focused in women empowerment in tailor made courses in ICT.
Ms. Sahatqija has an extensive experience in politics and governmental institutions. She had important positions within political parties as Vice President and President of political party ORA, Vice President, member of the Central Presidency and member of the Foreign Policy Department in LDK.
She was many times member of the Parliament of Kosovo as a member, chair or co-chair of different parliament committees as Committee of Foreign Affairs, Committee on Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Energy, Telecom, Infrastructure. She was the Chair of Committee on European Integration at the time of adaptation of the Agreement between Kosovo and European Union.
Ms. Sahatqija was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo in 2020-2021, the Consul General of Republic of Kosovo in New York in 2016-2020 covering United Nations, Multilateralism and cooperation with UN members.
Ms. Sahatqija was the Advisor to President Fatmir Sejdiu in 2010, Kosovo Government’s Representative to the Holy See and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora under PM Hoti’s Government. She is currently the Advisor of the Mayor of Prishtina for Digital Transformation and Smart City.
Teuta Sahatqija is a proud cofounder of Kosovo US Alumni Association in 2006-2007. She is a cofounder of Women Cross Party Parliamentary Caucus in 2005. Becoming the President of the caucus in 2010-2014. Ms. Sahatqija is also a cofounder of the Regional Women’s Lobby for Peace and Security in 2006, and the founder of Women in Tech Kosovo in 2021.
Ms Sahatqija is well known activist for women economic, political, diplomatic, social, digital empowerment. Her work was documented in many publications from international organization with whom she worked jointly as the George Town University publication “Working with both hands” and many other. She had many speeches and presentations at US Universities about many issues as Kosovo’s statehood, business opportunities, diplomacy, women empowerment, sexual violence during the war, and many more.
During her work in Parliament she was engaged in process of building the new and modern Constitution of Republic of Kosova, Gender Quota, women economic empowerment projects, many legislative initiatives, in her capacity as the President of Women Caucus in coordination with President Jahjaga, Ms. Sahatqija passed in Dec 2012 in Parliament, the Resolution “Principles of Prishtina” for women empowerment, voting of the Recommendations of Parliament of March 2012, for political and economic empowerment of women, women access to properties and many other. She worked hard within Parliament, Civil society and directly with survivors for supporting the cause of the survivors of sexual violence during the conflict. Ambassador Sahatqija had speeches in different USA Universities as Harvard, St. Johns, NYU, CUNY, Baruch College, Ohio Northern University, Champaign Illinois system, Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and other.
She was invited as a speaker or consultant from different organizations as Swedish International Idea in conference in Ghana and Jordan in different conferences for gender empowerment, invited by NDI to Yemen to train women politicians in using Constitution can for women empowerment, invited by KAS to international women’s Conference in Naypyidaw Myanmar, Invited by No Peace without Justice to Erbil, Iraq to women political conference, invited by US Congress and NDI and many other.
She speaks Albanian, English, Serbian, French, Turkish, and Italian. Born in Prizren, she is married and has two daughters and two sons. In her free time Ambassador Sahatqija is a painter and Yoga practitioner.
