Tasneem Fatima is a graduate in B.A. (English) Honours, who had an accident in June, 2015. In the last 7 years, she has not only become the Founder and the President of Delhi
State Wheelchair Basketball Association (Not-For-Profit Organisation), but has also achieved a few more laurels in her basket. She is a spinal cord injury survivor and a national wheelchair basketball player. She bagged a Silver medal in the National championship of Wheelchair Basketball and a Gold medal in Shot-Put in the Delhi State Championship. She has been featured in multiple articles and has inspired people all around the world. She was
also a part of the coffee table book as one of the wonder women, which was launched by the Vodafone Foundation. She has delivered motivational speeches on various occasions, ranging from issues related to employment for persons with disabilities, till creating awareness of spinal cord injury and wheelchair basketball. She was also a delegate from India for Australia-India Youth Dialogue, which is a program for building strong ties between Australia and India. She also got awarded with the “Power of Women” award at the Women Leadership Summit. She had showcased wheelchair basketball at the President’s House, which was later tweeted by the Prime Minister of India as well. Some of the other awards in her kitty include – “Best Social Worker Female” and “Outstanding achievement in Sports”
category awards.
She also got featured as a “Campus Achiever” in one of the motivational shoots by Campus Shoes and was a part of a short documentary made by PVR Cinemas. She had worked as a jury in one of the programs by Confederation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CIMSME), where she judged the innovative prototypes made for persons with disabilities for various issues. She was awarded with the National Leadership Award in 2020 for her outstanding work in the sports field. In 2020, the Victorian Government invited her to Melbourne, Australia as one of the international delegates for Global Victoria’s Women’sBusiness Summit to celebrate International Women’s Day. Recently, she got selected as an India Country Chair for Sports department by G-100 network.
Within these 7 years of her injury and under her leadership, Delhi State Wheelchair Basketball Association (DSWBA) has done a lot of activities & tournaments for other people with disabilities. The organisation promotes and trains persons with disabilities in wheelchair basketball. DSWBA is the only organisation to conduct two international tournaments in India with Nepal’s Army team.
