Back in the early 2000s – Armed with my Master’s in Microbiology, I taught at a Navi Mumbai Medical College for four years, making me a thoroughbred teacher. Over time, I chose to take a sabbatical, but my passion for teaching remained strong. Soon enough, young parents in my neighborhood of Andheri in Mumbai, becoming aware of my credentials and strengths as a teacher, asked me to conduct Maths and Science tuitions. That’s how my reincarnation as a teacher began.
I was initially happy taking tuitions but always wanted to do ‘something more’. I always thought of ways and means to infuse something fresh in my children’s mind, rather than simply spew up what had been explained in school earlier.
Cut to early 2013 – My first step towards being an Edupreneur. Given my experience of seeing students struggle with Maths and fearing it, I wanted to bring to them a Maths program that would help children grasp important Maths concepts in a fun way, while simultaneously honing skills which are necessary for academic progress.
As I took a closer look at today’s Maths curriculum in Schools and their teaching methodology, I observed that there are 2 vital areas that needed to be addressed – good understanding of Maths Concepts, and the need for accurate and faster calculations. Both these are required so that children are able to understand Maths Questions and then complete MCQs, time bound questions, cross-check their answers etc.
I therefore underwent Training in iMaths & MathPLUS (for conceptual clarity) and Vedic Maths (for faster and accurate calculations). I am now a Certified Teacher Trainer from the Indian Institute of Vedic Maths & Abacus (IIVA), a Government Certified Body, and from Chrysaalis Bangalore. I am also a Certified ECCEd Teacher.
Since the last 1 year, I also have the privilege of playing an all-important role as the Mumbai City Chair for G 100 Oneness & Wisdom.
So was born THE LEARNING SPOT ACADEMY in 2013, and my journey as an EDUPRENEUR had begun!!
Over the last few years, my venture – THE LEARNING SPOT has added innovative Maths and Science programs like iMaths (3-7 yrs), MathPLUS (8-14 yrs), Vedic Maths (8+ yrs), Mental Maths (8+ yrs) and Phonics / Grammar and English Speaking.
