Ms. Suchitra Rao is a Post Graduate in Social Work from Madras School of Social Work, Chennai, and has over 3 decades of experience in the Social Development sector. Gender and Child Rights issues are close to her heart as is facilitating children’s education. Suchitra Rao has been Consultant for the last 2 decades with UNICEF and Government of Karnataka, heading projects at district and state level on Child Rights and Child Protection issues, specifically child labour, child marriage and child abuse. Her grassroots experience has enabled advocacy with the State on policy and legal reforms. She has been a senior Facilitator and Trainer for State officials including the Police, Departments of Women and Child Development, Labour, and Education in various states, while also building capacity of members of statutory bodies under the Juvenile Justice system. Suchitra Rao is a member of Internal Committees for prevention of sexual harassment of women at work place (POSH Committees) at multiple organisations. She is an active Trustee with India Literacy Project, an NGO working for the last 30 years in the field of education of children and youth from tribal, dalit and other excluded communities. She is an optimist who holds a strong belief in the goodness of people and a firm conviction that positive energy can be synergised towards pursuing a shared vision.
