Founder, Soul Sitters

United States

Best-selling author and pioneering thought-leader, Stacey Canfield honors the lifecycle of the human spirit. As an advocate for our youth, Stacey founded the Peer Ambassador Program in 2007 to recognize high school students for community involvement and outstanding character. The program gives high school seniors the opportunity to act as role models to middle and elementary schools by classrooms, playgrounds and delivering inspiring assemblies. Through skits and other interactions, the students promote the philosophies of “Character Counts”, a program of the Josephson Institute of Ethics – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. The students are given personalized trading cards with an empowering message printed on the back which are sources of inspiration and motivation to be his or her best self.
The programs have been so successful that Stacey is approached routinely by, and consults with, forward thinking businesses asking how they can invest their marketing or charitable dollars with programs in our local school systems so badly in need of resources. These programs become a vibrant part of the client’s social responsibility program which create employee engagement, effective use of their investment dollars and a sustained business model.
Reflecting these same values, Stacey is equally passionate about end-of-life advocacy and is redefining how our culture approaches the subject of death and loss. In 2010 , she introduced the world to the concept of “Soul Sitting”, making sure that the terminally ill and their families have the tools to help them through life’s final transition. She empowers those facing the loss of a loved one with guidance and resources that transform a frightening time of life into an experience filled with hope, dignity and love through her Soul Sitter Programs. Her popular live workshops and keynote presentations are sought after by caregiving institutions such as hospice, home healthcare companies and hospitals. Stacey offers additional resources such as her Amazon best-selling book, “The Soul Sitter Handbook: What to do when a loved one is dying”, and an online community through her website (www.soulsitters.com).
A graduate of San Diego State University in Fine Arts, Stacey is a respected artist and master photographer whose work exudes the authenticity of her subjects giving them the voice they deserve. She lives in San Clemente California.
