A person´s attitude and approach to challenge are what most enable them to learn, achieve and contribute, and turn out to be of greater significance than inborn talent, economic status or family background. Excitingly, the right skills can be taught. This uplifting conclusion, drawn from several years working as a teacher in Inner London State Schools and in Central and South American not for profit education, has inspired me to create the HUMAN education programme for young people. I was blessed to have attended an outstanding independent school, where students were empowered to view themselves as active, responsible participants in their learning. I later understood the wisdom and importance of their approach, viewing success holistically, rather than solely based on external, summative outcomes. After my BA and Postgraduate degrees in East Anglia, I returned to London to teach, and saw first-hand how internal motivation and attitudes affected learning; time and time again, it was a positive, open mindset which most enabled students to process complex ideas and master new skills.
