Ms. Soma Chakraborty has 20 years’ plus experience as a healthcare professional.
She has worked in leading tertiary care Superspecialty hospitals in Kolkata- Bhagirathi Neotia Woman & Child Care Centre, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Fortis Hospitals and now associated with Medica Superspecialty Hospitals.
She has successfully set up the first ever internationally collaborated infertility treatment centre called Genomee while at Bhagirathi Neotia Woman & Child Care Centre in the year 2005 & was part of the commissioning team that set up Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital in 2009.
She is an active member of ALL (All Ladies League) and Women’s Economic Forum and involved with the various social activities round the year. She has been selected as the President of Women’s Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCI)- Healthcare Council, West Bengal Chapter. As President her work revolves around advocacy of pressing healthcare issues, healthcare education in schools, NGOs, communities especially with ongoing pandemic, Health Talk sessions where leading medical practitioners interact with masses on common ailments.
She is into sponsoring education of five school children in her personal capacity through the Education Trust formed in the name of her father. She is also initiating a one- time scholarship for two students who are ranking first at class X and XII Board Examination in her father’s school. Through WICCI, she and her council of members are working for woman and child health.
She is the proud recipient of Exceptional Women of Excellence Award conferred by WEF (Women’s Economic Forum) in 2018. She also received The Real Superwoman 2020–Forever Star India Awards.
While being in healthcare, she has been in the forefront of the pandemic for last two years handling major infrastructural changes that were done to treat covid 19 patients. She and her team worked day and night towards capacity building to accommodate more pandemic inflicted patients. She has lead a team that had converted sports stadium and old non- functioning hospital in to a full- fledged hospital with ICU and oxygen plant during the peak of covid and in record timing.
She is also a guest lecturer in healthcare educational institutions as she believes in giving back and help the next generation of professionals to come up. She is roped in as Professor in Swami Vivekananda University to teach students pursuing Bachelors and Masters & Hospital Management.
Her journey so far has been recently included into a book called Uma, which was published before the Durga Puja this year along with other accomplished women of Kolkata.
