Dr. Shubhda Arora is a Media Sociologist currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at FLAME University, Pune, where she teaches courses in Gender and Media, Development Communication, Culture and Communication, Sociology of Disasters among others. In the last five years at the University, she has chaired the Dissertation Committee and guided more than fifteen research projects.

Shubhda was awarded the Research Excellence Fellowship by the Central European University (CEU, Budapest) and the Open Society Foundation (OSF) in 2016 for a project on ‘Women in Disasters’. She has been a guest researcher at the Disaster Research Unit (DRU), Freie Universitat, Berlin and a visiting scholar at the Disaster Research Center – CIVDES (Centro de Investigacion Vulnerabilidades y Desastres Socionaturales), University of Santiago, Chile.

Before joining FLAME, Shubhda was a doctoral fellow at MICA, Ahmedabad and specialized in the area of Disaster Studies. Her doctoral thesis entitled ‘I lived through a disaster: Remembering the experiences of relief and rehabilitation of the 2010 Leh flash floods’ focused on lived experiences of those affected by natural disaster and memories evoked in the wake of such post disaster events. Apart from her doctoral thesis, Shubhda has actively researched and contributed papers in the area of ‘Gendering Disasters’.
