Shani Saxon, LMSW, is the founder and executive director of Kids Turning Corners, Inc, and Turning Corners Consulting, Inc., both dedicated to addressing the mental and physical wellbeing of adolescents and adults. Shani provides consulting services and mental health counseling to individuals, agencies and groups at the local, state and federal levels.
Shani contracts as a field instructor at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University- Schools of Social Work, in partnership with One Love Global, a local nonprofit committed to peace, justice and racial equity for people of color. She provides supervision to undergraduate and graduate students who are learning about macro and policy issues through the My Brothers Keeper (MBK) initiative.
Shani also contracts with Michigan State University, Engineering Diversity Programs Office- to facilitate a yearly summer training program on leadership and emotional intelligence to incoming students, mentors and staff on effective leadership skills and emotional wellness techniques that can increase their chances of academic and career success.
Shani’s research interests include focusing on the disparities of mental health accessibility for Black women who deal with trauma and mental illness.
