Advocate, Global Citizen
Shakira graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology). During her undergraduate studies she undertook a Global Policy and Government Affairs internship in New York City at Global Citizen, an international advocacy organisation with the vision to end extreme poverty by 2030 in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. There, working primarily on the Global Health Campaign, Shakira became passionate about universal health coverage and health systems improvement, which she now plans to explore as a postgraduate student. Shakira was also a delegate at the 2018 Matariki Global Citizenship Forum in New Zealand and currently works as a Project Officer at the McCusker Centre for Citizenship where she seeks to empower young people to be active citizens positively contributing to their local, national, and global communities.
