Ruchi Pritam

Lawyer & Author

Tamil Nadu, India

I am a Bihari by roots. My education can be divided into three geographical locations – primary education in England, schooling till the Tenth grade in Bihar and high school plus graduation and Law from Delhi. I was married while studying law and my son was also born in my Third year of Law. The biggest geographical change in life happened when I came to live in Tamil Nadu as my husband is an officer of this state cadre. Life was demanding.
After this demanding phase of bringing up two kids, earning some income by working as a lawyer and a freelance teacher, devoting time and energy to relatives, finding an escape in tailoring simple clothes for self and daughter and reading books of all kinds, ending up with a debilitating stomach ailment, making many new friends, reading numerous books on varied subjects, I have finally settled down to writing. I started with a blog, writing autobiographical short stories for children. I have been fascinated by the wonderful heritage and architectural wonders of India since my school days and now I am fulfilling my dreams of writing about the magnificent cultural heritage of India. The writing has helped me to create an identity as an individual and grow beyond the traditional roles of daughter, daughter-in-law, wife, mother and part of various groups. My mother’s words ring deep – what remains after a person leaves this world is their writings.
I have been lucky to have been appreciated for my work by my two wonderful children, relatives, friends and all my readers. Most of all I am thankful to my husband, who has never given up on me and is the driving force behind my work.
