Rheeya Uppaal is a multifaceted achiever and a young researcher in Artificial Intelligence. She is pursuing her journey of learning at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst USA and exploring Machine Learning, NLP, Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, Computer Vision, Database Design etc. She has worked on AI projects with Microsoft Research, Goldman Sachs, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Krea amongst others. She has also a few publications to her credit and has been well acknowledged at international conferences for her prowess in her area. She is a Space enthusiast, and topped the ‘Space and Quality Environment’ course under a renowned ISRO Scientist. She has also presented her research paper on ‘Exploring the Facets of Colonization of the Red Planet – Mars’ at a National Research Conference.
This vibrant Indian is equally endowed with other skills like creativity and management. She was All- India Rank 2 at NCAT (National Creativity and Aptitude Test) and is a born creative genius in GUI applications. She led a project on ‘Creativity and Innovation’ and managed a team of Graduate and Post Graduate students at IIT Delhi, despite being the youngest member of the project.
Rheeya is a true humanitarian at heart and loves to do whatever she can, for the economically backward and physically challenged. She is an environmentalist and passionately driven towards sustainable development. She has worked with the NGOs ‘Swacch’, ‘Goonj’ and ‘ALL’ to tackle multiple social and environmental issues, including organising charity donations and welfare activities. Even as a young student herself, she currently supports five economically challenged teenaged girls from various towns of India, and aspires to keep supporting hundreds of them over time, towards their education and fulfilment of their goals.
Rheeya is a multipotentialite who sings, plays the violin, loves ice skating, dancing and dramatics; and is a voice-over artiste and live anchor. She has won several awards and recognitions in international Maths and IT Olympiads, Hackathons, Debates, Elocutions, Quiz contests, Solo Song and Dance competitions. She is the Graduate Student Senator at her University and loves to engage with students from across both hemispheres and work towards a more harmonious socially conditioned global society.
