Raisa Banfield was recently elected as Vice Mayor of Panama. Formerly, she was director of the Environmental Advocacy Center. She offers conferences on civil participation, conservation, and development in order to provide information access to communities. She has created workshops and expert exchanges on urban and environmental topics as well as published diverse opinion articles in various news organs. In 2007, she won a scholarship from the US government to train in topics related to urbanism and the environment. Recently, she was invited by the Environmental Leadership Training Initiative, a program of the Smithsonian Institute of Tropical Research and the Yale University School of Forestry to take part in the conference “Financing for the Conservation of Nature in the Americas.” She is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Central America Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
