Dr Parves Khan is a research leader who has helped businesses understand the commercial benefits of placing empathy and human-centeredness at the heart of their approach to design. Her research into human needs and pain-points have led to a number of new product launches with great commercial success. She has led research functions in companies across leisure, finance and digital education over the past 20 years. Over the course of her professional career, she has produced thought pieces on a wide range of social issues including child welfare, the plight of undocumented trafficked minors, and social exclusion, including a book on child protection ‘Working together or pulling apart? The National Health Service and child protection networks’ published in 2001. The daughter of first generation immigrants to the UK, she was the first in her family to attend university and gain a PhD. Her love for learning and sharing her experiences through mentoring others has helped her be recognised as a leader in research among her peers.
