– María Lopez is one of the youngest sustainability leaders in the region and one of the pioneers of sustainability in media in Colombia. Amongst her major achievements is creation of the Semana Foundation, which has focused its work in building sustainable and inclusive models of development in post conflict zones to eradicate extreme poverty. Three years ago, she founded Festival Detonante a leadership platform that inspires through music and tought provocking ideas that drive change and mobilizes citizens.
Her work in sustainability has focused in transforming Publicaciones Semana, one of the most influential media conglomerates in the country, into a Media Company that has sustainability at its strategic core. Today, she is the Vice president of Content of the Group and is in charge of the transformation of the business model in order to meet the challenges the industry faces in the future.
Maria serves as a board member of several social and environmental organizations such as World Wildlife Fund, Global Reporting Initiative, and is an advisor to the Accumen Fund in Colombia.
María is a lawyer from Universidad de Los Andes and holds an Environmental Management Masters Degree from the Universidad de los Andes, in addition to a post-graduate degree in Human Rights from American University. She is a mother of two, a journalist, an activist, and a philanthropist. She was recognized by the World Economic Forum as one of the Young Global Leaders of the Class of 2016.
