Dr. Manimala Roy

Principal, Basava International School

India

An eminent educationist and literacy campaigner, Dr. Manimala Roy has focused on the deep linkages between early schooling and availability of white-collar jobs. In her doctoral thesis, she conclusively established that the surge in literacy in the 1990s could be adequately explained by the economic reforms. While successfully heading KLE Society’s Basava International School, Delhi, as its Principal, she has constantly promoted and campaigned for issues like peace education and understanding the problems of today’s children. At the helm of Basava she has taken a number of initiatives to address the issues arising out of certain fallouts of urban living like domestic violence, single parenting and alcoholism. She has spoken on different aspects of today’s education at many institutions and universities in India and abroad. An economist by training, she diversified in the field of education to produce work combining both disciplines.
