Want to blaze a trail in life? Then treat a setback like a stepping stone and don’t give up, says Retired Major Shera Ann Bosco. “A woman with grit, perseverance and passion – this is a woman who ill go places,” said Shera, 42. “It’s about having the drive to pursue whatever she has set her mind to, come what may. All she needs is a reason to do so.” She served 22 years, in the male-dominated military, and opted for retirement to fully focus on her startup CARING MOMS, an organization that focuses on the economic empowerment of mothers and women.
Major Shera together with Mr. Umesh Narasimhaiah (co-founder) has been in full swing in running the organization since April 2016. Her strength in leading, influencing and creating opportunities , is proof of how CARING MOMS membership has swelled to 70,000 members and still growing, with a waiting list numbering in more than 60, 000.
Events held by CARING MOMS todate has also attracted more than 450,000 visitors.
Major Shera’s ability in empathizing and understanding the needs of the people, made her realise the need for a support system, which focuses on the mothers’ needs and the importance of building-up resources, and the need to create a conducive atmosphere where mothers can support and motivate one another.
An extremely active platform, CM facilitates buying and selling, both goods and services – but only mothers (women) may be sellers. Members range from home cooks to jewellery enthusiasts to massage therapists and babysitters.
Shera, herself , a the mother of a 10 year-old, felt that mothers were often sidelined in the business world.
“It is assumed that their focus will only be on their kids. But so many mothers are so talented,” she said.
CM allows many of its members to focus on their kids and build small business empires as well.
Todate, CARING MOMS, an impact driven organization, has created social impact that has changed many lives. Her members earn an average monthly income of USD1000. The highest income recorded from a mom is USD23,000/ month, and the moms are now creating a ripple effect by empowering their local communities.
Shera and her team plans to create 50,000 jobs by 2021 and hope to impact more lives in the years to come. Her biggest idol is Jack Ma, and her motto is, “ To win in the 21st century, we must make others become more successful than us.
