Luísa Schmidt is a Portuguese Sociologist, Principal Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences – University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa (PHD, 1999). At the ICS-UL, she leads the OBSERVA – Observatory of Environment, Territory and Society, a research program founded in 1996 where she runs and coordinates several projects.
Luisa is part of the scientific committee of the interdisciplinary PHD on ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies’, a partnership involving two Universities of Lisbon (ULisboa and UNL), the University of East Anglia (UK) and the University of S. Paulo (Brasil). She is a member of the National Council for the Environment and the Sustainable Development, and of the Research Network for Environment and Society (RN12) – European Sociological Association (ESA).
She has been, since 1990, a renowned columnist on environmental issues at Expresso, a top weekly newspaper in Portugal.
In 2016 she was awarded with the science communication Prize Prémio Ciência Viva Montepio.
