Environmental Engineering and Social Systems Phd; Masters in Community Planning, University of Rhode Island, USA; Architect. Professor at Nova Lisbon University and investigator for MARE – Sea and Environmental Sciences Centre (www.mare-centre.pt/).
Has coordinated various investigation projects both nationally and in Europe, particularly in terms of collaborative work, namely MarGov: Collaborative Governance which won the Gulbenkian/ Lisbon Oceanrium Award in 2008, MARLISCO – MARine Litter in Europe Seas: Social AwarenesS and CO-Responsibility (FP7) in which Marlisco Portugal was distinguished with RRI Tools (Responsible Research Innovation Tools). Lia also presently develops Urban WINS (H2020) and Ocean Wise Interreg Atlantic Area (2014-2020).
She is co-founder of WTeamUp, an investigation-action group in governance – – www.wteamup.com – that centres its investigation on innovative decision/education processes, developing collaborative methodologies and mobilizing/involving multi-stakeholders, generating new forms of governance within the context of planning/sustainability, towards collective learning and contributing to collaborative policies.
She is editor/co-editor of several books, namely Environment, Science and Citizens (2010), An Ocean of People: citizen scientists and scientist citizens (2013), Sustainability in the 21st century – The Power of Dialogue (2015).
