USA

Kim Covill is President and a Founder of From Books to Brilliance (FBTB), an all-volunteer organization that promotes literacy through library creation and reading initiatives in under-served communities, primarily in Central America and in New Mexico. While volunteering for University of Texas-Galveston medical delegations in Nicaragua, the Founders of FBTB recognized the need for literacy to ameliorate abject poverty and human suffering. In 2009 she received an Edgar Award, named New Mexico’s Volunteer of the Year by Goodwill Industries.

Kim Covill earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with majors in Spanish and Ibero-American Studies. Kim left the international corporate world in her late thirties to become a teacher, a passion she recognized later in life. She currently teaches secondary-level Spanish at Albuquerque Public Schools, where her program, Bridges of Books…by kids…for kids, received recognition from the School Board and the New Mexico State Legislature.
