Julia Heck

Julia Heck is Associate Director of the Office of the Ombuds at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). Currently, Julia is pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at EMU specializing in the role of the ombuds in conflict resolution within higher education organizations. She has an earned M.A. in Educational Leadership – Higher Education and Student Affairs from EMU, as well as a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Julia has worked within higher education, transition from student to full-time professional over the past 9 years. Learning and working in these capacities have allowed her to explore university structures through the lens of policy and process, work to enhance the organizational function of institutions, and improve institutions as a whole for students, faculty, staff, and administration. In addition, her range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional experience working in the university setting includes housing, student leadership, orientation, recognition and programming, and summer camps and conferences. Her experiences have included work at large institutions, mid-sized institutions, and small institutions, both public and private. Out of these experiences Julia’s skills include training and development, leadership development and programming, public speaking, organizational development and effectiveness, and program development and redesign.
