I started Stories Matter in 2019 after realising the need for positively changing our classrooms and parent-child interactions.
Through my workshops, I equip teachers with the knowledge needed for teaching through stories. The focus here is to integrate all subjects, including languages, Math, science, among others with the story. The workshop module comprises of demo lessons, material building for teachers, and understanding the benefits of an integrated lesson plan and how to make one. I also conduct workshops for parents and students on topics like time management, gender sensitisation, stress management, self-regulation, etc.
I’ve conducted workshops in Army Public Schools in Delhi and Akhnoor, Kerala Public School in Jharkhand, St Paul School in Bihar, ASHA Public Schools, DPS Maruti Kunj, and in partnership with NGOs. I have handled smaller gatherings with focus groups while also training 270 teachers in a single workshop. Across this range, the response received can be summarised in three points:-
1. The unanimous appreciation for integrating stories with the regular curriculum
2. The benefits of teaching time and stress management to students and teachers alike
3. The joy experienced by differently-abled students when they’re taught stories via a multitude of props
Till May 2019, I was Director Teacher Education at Katha. Before this, I was with DPS International School. I’ve been working in the field of education for over two decades.
