Hyderabad Can be the Hub for Women Empowerment in the South

11 February 2013, Hyderabad: The ALL, the women’s wing of ASSOCHAM -India’s apex industry chamber – launched its Hyderabad Chapter at the Taj Deccan, with the belief that Hyderabad can become the hub of women’s empowerment in all of South. ALL is a global network of women who are connecting and collaborating to create a world where women can be safe and strong. Its noted members include business icon Dr. Kiran Majumdar-Shaw and fashion designer Ritu Beri.

Dr. Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson, ALL LADIES LEAGUE urged the women of Hyderabad to spearhead change and make Hyderabad a hub for change in the entire southern region. She said women here had the right mix of endurance and energy to face challenges and bring change. Additionally, Andhra had a legacy of great statesmanship as it has given us stalwart Presidents of our country. Chapter Chairperson, Ms. Suman Gahlot, who is also the rare lady GM in the Taj Group of Hotels, pointed out that in all countries, developed or developing, women’s concerns are common. They lag behind in factors of empowerment like well-being, education, and employment. So through ALL women have a great opportunity to unite for change, and the Taj Group, a key player in industry will stand by it.

Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister Geetha Reddy urged this global network to address issues of education and health of rural women in India and worldwide as inclusive integration is crucial for real empowerment. When women are educated and aware across all strata of society, they will contribute better and thus strengthen their voice in decision-making in families as well as larger society.

Padma Shri Begum Bilkees Latif, a noted social leader in Hyderabad, said that women must use their unique creative and constructive strengths to do whatever good they wished, enlist the support of their friends and family, and importantly not get disappointed if results are slow to be seen. Speaking with immense wisdom, Begum Bilkees said that every drop in the ocean counts and women should take initiatives according to their strengths and that could be in as many diverse ways as possible. Ultimately if the benefits are reaching women, every effort made is worthy and valuable.
