Hernan Porras Diaz

Hernán Porras Díaz , rector and legal representative of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), is a Civil Engineer graduated from the Universidad Industrial de Santander; Master in Computer Science and PhD in Telecommunications from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain), and Master in Technological Management from the Pontificia Bolivariana University (UPB).
He is linked to the UIS since 1983, in the position of Professor, attached to the School of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical and Mechanical Engineering. Currently has the category of Full Professor Laureate, maximum expected in the teaching ladder. He has been director of 32 graduate projects and 69 undergraduate projects, and of 62 extension projects. Co-author of 11 scientific articles, 2 books and 5 research projects. Co-researcher in projects funded by Colciencias and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Founder in 1998 and leader since then of the Geomatics Research, Systems Management and Optimization Group.

During his academic year at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, he has held the positions of director of the Planning Office, director of the Center for Regional Studies, dean (E) of the Faculty of Physicomechanical Engineering and director (E) of the School of Engineering Civil. In the public sphere, he has also served as secretary of Water and Environment of the Department of Santander and head of Municipal Planning of Bucaramanga.
Also, by appointment of those who have served as governors of the department of Santander, has been its representative before the Board of Directors of the University Institute of Peace (1998), the Superior Council of the Technological Units of Santander (1995) and the Board of Directors of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Santander – CAS (1995).
Among the academic recognitions obtained stand out, among others: Cum Laude Distinction in UIS undergraduate, Cum Laude Distinction in Doctorate and Benemérito Graduate of the Dámaso Zapata Higher Technical Institute. In turn, Button of Gold in the category Founder of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, section Bucaramanga, and Luis Enrique Aramburo Bolaños Engineering Award from the same university, in recognition of a life dedicated to the service of engineering and education in Santander and the country.
He is an Honorary Member of the History Academy of Santander.
In February 2017, he began his tenure as Vice President of the Network Corporation of Education, Research and Development Institutions of the Colombian East (UNIRED), and from November of the same period until November 2018, he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN).
His work as Rector of the UIS began on February 15, 2016, management that in accordance with the provisions of the General Statute of the Universidad Industrial de Santander will be extended for a term of 3 years.
