Hermínia Sol’s research is in the fields of Travel Literature, Cinema, Humour, Short Fiction, Women’s Studies and American Studies. She is an Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar in Portugal (IPT), where she teaches English, Portuguese Literature and Portuguese as a Foreign Language. She is also a researcher at IPT’s Technology, Restoration and Arts Enhancement Center (TECHN&ART) and at the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies (ULICES). In 2013 she was awarded a PhD in American Literature by the University of Coimbra, for her thesis “The Impossible Fusion of Horizons”: the theme of the journey in Paul Bowles’s short fiction. Since then Hermínia has been conducting research into the dialogue between cinema and literature, travel writing, storytelling, humour and recent American history. Her first book, entitled: “The pleasant feeling of being in a more innocent age’: Paul Bowles’s impressions on Portugal is going to be published in 2019.
