Graça Martinho is a Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (FCT NOVA) and currently is the Student Ombudsperson of NOVA.
She is co-author of the first books in Portuguese for professionals and university students – Practical Manual for Waste Management, Waste Management, Green Pages – Who’s Who in Environment and Environment Dossier.
Since the 90s it has actively participated in waste management policies and environmental education and was a pioneer in Portugal in various initiatives, which are: the creation of the EcoCampus Group at FCT NOVA, the first of its kind in a Higher Education Institution in Portugal; responsible for the presence of the largest national delegation in the Global Forum of ECO’92 Conference (Rio de Janeiro); promoter of the first Environment Games and Water Games, aimed at students of primary and secondary schools; founding partner of the Portuguese Association of Environmental Engineers, a professional association that greatly contributed to the recognition of environmental engineering in Portugal; founding partner of the Portuguese Association of Marine Litter (APLM).
