Emily Creegan is a PhD student in the Plant and Environmental Sciences Department at New Mexico State University, New Mexico, United States of America. Her research is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA); she is a USDA fellow. Her research focus is biomass utilization and compost program development. She is currently working with farmers in New Mexico in utilizing pecan tree trimmings and on-farm compost program development. The finished compost product will be incorporated into the farm soil, in an effort to naturally increase nutrient and water availability to the pecan trees, and sequester carbon (a climate change mitigation strategy). Emily has a background in waste management and she has also worked in Haiti and Ghana in biosolid (human waste) to local garden cultivation, compost program development.
