Dr. Shantana Saikia is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English at Bahona College, Jorhat, Assam. She is also a writer, translator, ethnographic researcher and trainer with the Capacity Building Program of Women Studies. Dr. Saikia has widely lectured, presented and published academic papers on field research on folklore in the monastic institutions of Assam called Sattras.She is also involved in English language training programs for school teachers in Assam and has developed materials for textbooks for schools for SCERT, Govt of Assam. She is also a member of various NGOs and for the last ten years has been working to provide self employment platforms to unemployed graduates and college drop- outs. Dr. Saikia was the Chapter Chair of Employability, Assam (ALL) and is the recipient of two ALL awards of Iconic Women for Creating a Better World for All and Exceptional Women of Excellence.
