Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič was a full-time professor in international business and a Vice-rector of the University of Ljubljana for the field of knowledge transfer until she assumed the position of Minister of Education, Science and Sport. She has been employed at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana since 1993. Before that, she was employed for a short time in the Vrhnika Leather Industry (1993).

Her bibliography covers over 400 scientific and professional publications. Scientific and research focused mainly on the internationalization of companies, on the basis of relationships, on the basis of relationships, international marketing and the integration of marketing, sales and human resources. In June 2013, she was also appointed President of the EMAC / European Marketing Academy /, the largest European academic marketing organization, in 2011 she chaired the EMAC congress. In the period 2008-2014 she was President of the Society for Marketing of Slovenia.

He transfers his knowledge in various ways to Slovenian internationally operating companies (projects and examples, mentoring, expert commissions). She was also involved in the COBIK Excellence Center.

He has many experiences in the field of development and quality assurance in higher education, internationalization, integration of education with the economy and the wider social environment:

• 2009-2013, as a developmental development for the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, she took care of the development of strategy, international positioning and quality (accreditation);
• 2010-2013 was President of the NAKVIS Council (National Agency for Quality in Higher Education);
• 2013 until she assumes the position of the Minister in May 2015, she has been the Vice-Rector at the University of Ljubljana in the field of transfer of knowledge and internationalization.

In more than twenty years of work in the field of education, she was a member or vice-president of Quality Committees (EF, UL), Head of the EF Educational Center, Member of the Senate EF, co-founder of the Student Business Conference (linking study and research achievements of students with the needs of businesses and institutions) program committees of expert and scientific conferences etc.

In the field of sports, she acted as vice president of the Marketing Business Council of the Slovenian Olympic Committee and chaired the Sporto prize.
