Dr Krishnakumar Rathnam, is a medical oncologist who hails as the third generation of a family of doctors,who strongly believes in precise healthcare delivered with compassion. The seed to this passion was sowed at an early age, inspired by his parents Dr Rathnam and Dr Janaki Rathnam, who were pioneers in delivering health care since 1961. On completing his MBBS in 2001, he completed his Masters in Internal medicine as the university gold medalist, during which time, the big lacuna in the care of cancer patients ignited his passion for oncology. He completed his training in medical oncology at the prestigious Cancer Institute Adyar, Chennai India again as the university topper and gold medalist and headed straight back to his hometown Madurai to start his career.
Dr Krishna was instrumental in setting up a structured Medical Oncology department at Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai and heads the department since 2010. He was instrumental in setting up and performing the first bone marrow transplant program in South Tamilnadu in 2015. He is passionate about breast and gynecological cancers; “PREVENTION IS CURE” is his slogan to the general public. He was awarded the prestigious “BEST DOCTOR AWARD” from EKAM foundation recognizing his community services in Oncology in 2011 and “SOCIAL HARMONY AWARD” by Madurai Humor club in 2019. He is associated with various circles of the ROTARY CLUB and LIONs INTERNATIONAL as a resource person for spreading cancer awareness and preventive strategies to common public.

After work hours he enjoys family time with his aged parents, wife a practicing ophthalmologist & 2 lovely daughters. His a passionate musician & strongly believes that “MUSIC HEALS AND REJUVENATES” and propagates this idea amongst his fellow professionals encouraging all, irrespective of age to learn music. As a testimonial, he along with children pursue grade 4 classical piano from the ASSOCIATED BOARD OF ROYAL SCHOOL OF MUSIC, LONDON and he hosts the annual practical examination for students learning piano, guitar and violin every year in Madurai.
