Dr. Fatima Mohamed Albalooshi is the Kingdom’s longest-serving female minister, and the first minister to simultaneously oversee three portfolios – Social Development, Health and Human Rights.
While serving in government, Dr. Albalooshi’s accomplishments included the launch of a range of social services targeting the poor, elderly, disabled and other disadvantaged members of society, as well as the founding and chairing of the world’s first Islamic microfinance bank, Bahrain-based Family Bank, which seeks to empower small entrepreneurs. She was also a member of the Economic Development Board’s Executive Committee from 2008 to 2011, and of the Consultative Commission for the Supreme Council of GCC Leaders from 2004 to 2005. In recognition of her achievements, Dr. Albalooshi was awarded the Bahrain Medal Dr. Albalooshi has been a member of the Supreme Council for Women since 2001, having been appointed personally by His Majesty King Hamad. Also serving as Chairperson of Bahrain Trust Foundation, a non-profit organization offering empowerment through education, training and health services, Dr. Albalooshi continues to be passionate about humanitarianism, women’s rights and community development, supporting projects that improve the quality of life of Bahrain’s people.
