With a professional background is in sales and marketing, Chontelle is a specialist in volunteerism and community engagement with over 18 years volunteering experience. Due to her active participation within the community, Chontelle was elected to Local Government in 2017. Chontelle manages to balance being a Mum of 4 and Stepmum of 2 with the challenging schedule of an Elected Member whilst also working full time.
When her children started school, Chontelle joined the P&C and became the WACSSO State Councillor for the area. In 2011 she helped parents start a lobby campaign for another high school to be built, which is currently due to open next year.
Chontelle has been the Safety House Cockburn coordinator since 2012, held community forums on crime, and currently chairs both Neighbourhood Watch Cockburn and the Cockburn Community Interagency Crime Prevention Group. She has built a great relationship with local Police and continues to be active in this space.
In 2015, Chontelle restarted the Yangebup Residents Association and assisted with the formation of several other local resident groups to help residents have a voice. These groups continue to advocate on key issues and build community spirit by holding local community events.
