Chereese La-Vonne Ricketts is a Designer and Spoken Word Artiste who describes herself as a free spirit with an empathetic heart. Through her life and career Chereese aims to spread joy and peace by helping other define and express their individual identities.
In 2015, as the reigning Miss Jamaica Festival Queen, she launched The eMOTION Movement, a non-profit organisation which exists to bring awareness to Mental Health Issues in Jamaica; encouraging everyday Jamaicans to be more aware of their own mental health and overall well-being, and removing the stigma that Mental Illness carries in Jamaica. This project was supported by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and the Jamaica Mental Health Advocacy Network.
In the spoken word realm, Chereese uses her words to explore concepts of personal identity, spiritual ascension and social unity. Using thought-provoking puns she scratches the surface of reality, pushing her audience deep within themselves, all while maintaining an intoxicating rhythm.
In 2015, Chereese was recognized by the Governor-General of Jamaica as a recipient of the Governor-General Achievement Award for Excellence for her work as a mental health advocate, activist and community leader.
