Managing Director, Corporación Ventures
Carolina Duran is Managing Director of Corporación Ventures, advisor for the governmental program Colfuturo Emprende and leads Columbia University’s Global Center expansion initiative for Colombia. She was also Founder & Director of BI, a Colombian digital media service specializing in financial data, analysis, and news covering the most dynamic sectors in Latin America, focusing on serving clients in financial services, industry, and consulting from across the globe.
Carolina has more than two decades of work experience, in both public and private sector; largely in the financial sector, including periods with Citicorp Information Technologies (India), Standard Chartered Bank (Colombia), and Asobancaria (Colombia) where she served as Assistant President. She was previously appointed First Secretary of Foreign Affairs, where she dealt with transnational economic issues such as remittances and diaspora, and actively participated in the negotiation of Colombia’s Free Trade Agreements. More recently Carolina worked at Standard and Poor’s (S&P) in the U.S. and Mexico, where she served as Associate Director in charge of evaluating the leading infrastructure and oil and gas companies in Latin America. She also formed part of S&P’s analytical team for sovereign ratings and public finances.
Mrs. Duran is a Fulbright and Colfuturo Scholar. In 2009, she completed her Master’s Degree in International Relations at Columbia University in the city of New York City (USA). She also holds a postgraduate degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá (Colombia). She is also a fellow from Stanford University where she studied Social Change.
