C. Ramasubramanian

Dr. C. Ramasubramanian, MD; DPM; PhD; widely known as Dr. CRS, is a well-known psychiatrist based in Madurai. Currently the State Nodal Officer, Police Well Being Programme, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. CRS has a comprehensive experience and expertise of more than 40 years in mental health services. He completed his undergraduate and post graduate medical education in psychiatry from Madurai Medical College and doctorate in community psychiatry from Madurai Kamaraj University in Tamil Nadu.
Dr. CRS began his career in 1979 in the Tamil Nadu Medical and Health Services where he was Professor and Head of Psychiatry, Madurai Medical College. His twin passions are community psychiatry and psychosocial rehabilitation. In the course of his professional career of over three decades in government service, Dr. Ramasubramanian was entrusted with several important responsibilities. He leveraged these opportunities to serve people with mental disabilities in the community through effective and efficient delivery of mental health services. He has been instrumental in making mental health care services available, affordable and accessible to people from marginalized sections of Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Ramasubramanian’s role as a champion for the welfare of people with mental disabilities also extends to the non governmental sector. In 1992, in memory of his father late MS Chellamuthu, he established MS Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCT&RF), a non profit organization for mental health services based in Madurai.
