Engineering Manager, Ministry of Railways

India

An Engineering Manager, a philosophical thinker and a passionate writer (Both English and Hindi) altogether is pretty tough job, but I live both the sides of the coin with pride at 28 years of age.
My conservative family wanted me to be 1) an engineer, 2) be in a Government job, and 3) stay in my hometown-Delhi which filled the days and night of an ordinary college pass out working in a private job with herculean hard work. In 2 years of fathomless struggle, without going for any coaching despite the competitive scenario, shunning all friends and relatives, and managing somehow with the challenging environment of my private job, I finally brought the happy tears of pride to my parents. Undeniably, to get selected in a government job at a reputable designation under ministry of Railways has been one of the glorious moments of my life.
But the sharp turn, which makes life feel like a unique experience to me is an unfounded inclination towards writing, which took place in a slow and steady way with the reading of novels I never read before. I felt an urge to be a writer. But the bitter reality is that the conservative class understands the definition of an engineer pretty well but writing stands as a forbidden career choice.
The society expects from a girl to only have a successful career, (or no career), to be conversant with taking care of the family and household chores. Any kind of passion is insane and enough to spoil her image as a stereotypical epitome of an ideal woman.
I am trying to make a difference by proving this delusion of the society wrong by trudging along the two parallel roads. I am inspiring people to understand that ‘passion should not be foresaken at any cost’.
Going beyond my said boundaries, I interview people, (here at WEF as well), listen to real stories from real people and connect to the struggles of aspiring adolescents at various literary events. A part of my writing contains such experiences. I strongly believe that Writing is a way to ignite minds, touch hearts and penetrate souls. Besides, inspired by the cause behind WEF, my vision is to create a platform which would help new writers to take up this profession as a full-time choice.
