Formal Training, Famous Bharathanatyam Artist
Aswathy started her training under her mother, renowned dancer, Smt. Kalamandalam Saraswathy, at the tender age of four, giving her first stage performance at the age of seven. Aswathy is trained in three forms of dance, namely Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. Aswathy started training in Bharatanatyam under N.Srikanth from 1999. She now specialises in Bharatanatyam, the art which she believes has given her freedom and strength to explore beyond the horizon. Aswathy’s dance has a unique sensibility replete with innovative choreographic skills and uncompromising adherence to tradition.
Aswathy has had formal training in Carnatic music. Being the daughter of the legendary Malayalam writer and Jnanpith awardee M.T.Vasudevan Nair, Aswathy also has a flair for writing and is known for her articles on her artistic experiences. Her literary background adds depth to her understanding of Natya.
Srikanth and Aswathy are adept at Nattuvangam and are now engaged in passing on their legacy through students at Nrityalaya School for Classical Dances, functioning in Kozhikode, Kerala. They also have a strong student base in the USA where they conduct workshops and summer residency programmes annually. They have choreographed and presented a number of dance productions in the USA using local talents.
