Ashima Banker, a Professor & Vice Principal, at Anant National University strives to grow knowledge and disseminate the same to the young generation. Her experience in more than 50 consultancy and research projects she has been a part of range from master plans, development plans, regional plans, GDCR formulation and policy analysis & formulation.
Teaching and research are close to her heart. Her philosophy as a teacher has evolved from being an instructor to being a facilitator and a mentor. In today’s world where information is on the fingertips, she strongly believes that it is an integral role of the teacher to build competencies in the young minds to filter relevant information, back it up with existing knowledge base and probe the issue critically.
Her research interests are Land policy & legislation, Landuse Transport integration, spatial planning, smart cities & planning education, urban theory and design implementation. She recently presented her research paper titled ‘Sustainable Land Development’ at the International conference on Future Smart cities, organised by IEREK. Her current research work is on ‘Planning education in India: need for an overhaul’ and ‘Technology driven Urban Planning’.
Ashima has also been rigorously involved in curriculum development in the discipline of planning since early 2008. She has been serving as a member of the Board of Studies at Gujarat Technological University and Anant National University since 2015, for the undergraduate planning programme and during 2009-2011 for Masters of Planning (Industrial Area Planning & Management), CEPT University.
Originally from Delhi, Ashima is based in Ahmedabad for almost two decades now. In her free time she loves to paint, read and write poetry. When not reading subject related books, she likes to read philosophy, trying to make sense of the way the world is. Her ultimate goal in life is to be student always and keep learning.
