Dr. Myriah Davis is Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and has worked at Hocking College for the past 17 years. She has earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Toledo. Dr. Davis has earned certificates from Villanova University in Strategic Organizational Planning, Mastering HR Organizational Effectiveness, and Human Resource Management.
Dr. Davis has an extensive professional background and has held a variety of higher education leadership positions in student affairs, academic affairs and operations. The executive level leadership positions she has held are Interim President, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, Vice President of Administrative Services/Chief Operating Officer, Senior Director of Institutional Research, Academic Dean, and Director of College Partnerships. She is often invited to speak at national and international conferences.
Dr. Davis has taught graduate and undergraduate courses for multiple colleges and universities. Due to her extensive career path in higher education and areas of expertise, Dr. Davis is able to provide her students the unique opportunity of learning from a faculty member who has enjoyed a successful broad-based career in higher education leadership. She has taught both traditional and on-line courses throughout her professional career of providing services to a diverse population of college students. Dr. Davis brings practical educational lessons into each course she teaches.
Dr. Davis is a first-generation college student and child of Appalachia, one of the poorest economic regions in the United States. She has experienced first-hand the socioeconomic barriers that exist for all too many students around the world. Overcoming these obstacles by persevering to obtain a bachelor degree, master’s degree and Ph.D., demonstrates that she has the unique vision of what it takes to educate and mentor students to positively impact social change for their local region, their nation and our world. Her career has been focused on developing opportunities for students by helping them realize their potential through education and self-assurance so no goal will ever be out of reach.
