Access to Technology Holds the Key to Women Empowerment

August 19, 2013; New Delhi: “Access to technology holds the key to women empowerment,??? said Dr. Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson, ALL LADIES LEAGUE at an interactive session on “Innovation & Change for Women Through Technology—Learning From The MIT Way??? organized by ALL in association with Rai Foundation and Massachusetts Institute of Technology South Asia Alumni Association (MITSAAA), in New Delhi today. A report on “Women Building Peace: Piece by Piece,??? prepared by PAIMAN Trust offering a detailed analysis and recommendations for improving relationship between India and Pakistan was also released at the event.

Ms. Mossarat Qadeem, Chapter Chairperson, Islamabad Chapter, ALL & Former Minister for Information, Social Welfare & Secondary Education, Government of Pakistan, said, “Women on both sides of the border can use technology to develop a better understanding of each other’s issues and hence can find solution to their common problems.??? Other panelists at the session were Dr. Janice Darbari, H.E. The Consul General of Montenegro to India; and Ms. Freshta Rohani Popal, Third Secretary-Political, Embassy of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Dr. Janice Darbari and Ms. Freshta Rohani Popal both were of the view that these days technology, in particular smart phones and Internet, allows women and people at large to communicate more freely. Dr. Arora said, “Technology is the prerogative of curious people who attempt to make sense of the world around them. She believes that this new movement is important and timely.???
