Executive Chairman at SoftBank Energy

Manoj Kohli is presently the Executive Chairman of the SoftBank Energy, a joint venture formed by Japan’s SoftBank, Bharti Enterprises and Foxconn. Manoj has 38 years of industry work experience.
Before taking over this project, Manoj was the Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises Limited and responsible for the growth and operations of the Bharti group of companies – retail, insurance, agri-products, real estate, mobile internet etc.
He was the Managing Director and CEO (International), Bharti Airtel, for operation across African continent spanning over 20 countries and led the business till 2013.
Manoj joined Bharti Airtel in 2002 as President of Mobile Services business and became CEO and Managing Director. He led Bharti Airtel’s India operations to grow from 2 million to 150 million.
Manoj was also founding member of Escotel, which he led for over 5 years as Executive Director and CEO, before coming on board at Bharti Airtel.
Manoj started his career in 1979 with the DCM Shriram Group and held business leadership positions in the Foods, Chemicals and Fertilizer businesses and assignments in Engineering projects, including Shriram Honda. He started his career in HR field.
Manoj led as the Chairman, Public Policy Committee of GSM Association (GSMA), was also Board Member of GSMA in 2008 and reappointed to the GSMA Board in 2012. Manoj is currently Chairman, CII Task Force on Ease of Doing Business working with PMO directly to transform the investment climate in India. Prior to this he has held the post of Chairman – Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Committee on Telecom & Broadband.
He was adjudged “Telecom Man of the Year” in 2000 and “Telecom Person of the Year” in 2004
Manoj holds degrees in Commerce, Law and MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. Manoj also attended the “Executive Business Program” at the Michigan Business School and the “Advanced Management Program” at the Wharton Business School
