For nearly 15 years, Kavita Mehra has dedicated her career to the not-for-profit sector. Currently she is the Interim Chief Executive Officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN.
Since joining BGCN, the organization has grown from serving 400 members in 3 sites to over 1,000 members in 7 sites; expanded its public health initiative with a free pediatric vision center and the READY Family Wellness Center; and established a Young Professionals Council that cultivates the support of emerging leaders throughout New Jersey.
In addition to her role at BGCN, Kavita is an Advisory Board Member for the New Leaders Council’s New Jersey Chapter, a Board Member for LadyDrinks, a Board Member for the Foundation for the Home Health Care Workers’ Association, an Advisory Board Member for I Have A Dream Newark, an Advisory Council Member for She’s The First, and, is a Steering Committee Member for the South Asian American Caucus for the Democratic Party of New Jersey.
In 2016 Kavita completed the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Advanced Leadership Program and in 2014 she was a Lead New Jersey Fellow and an Athena Mastermind at Barnard. In 2013 Kavita was a New Leaders Council-New Jersey Fellow.
Kavita has blogged for the White House initiative Act To Change and the Huffington Post. She also has been featured in leading media outlets and in “Roshni: Emerging Indian Global Leaders” for her work in the not-for-profit sector.
Kavita completed her Bachelor of Arts from New York University with a double major in both History and Gender Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in South Asian Studies, from Columbia University.
