Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever is the Author of the awardwinning book, How Exceptional Black Women Lead, and Founder of the Exceptional Leadership Institute, a global personal and professional development firm grounded in the notion that the best leadership is diverse leadership. As such, through virtual and on-site training, workshops and retreats, customized organizational strategy development, and executive coaching specifically tailored to the needs of diverse talent, ELI helps individuals and organizations deliver on the promise and potential that diversity brings. As a prolific writer, Dr. Avis is the author or co-author of numerous publications, a selection of which include: The State of Black Women in the U.S. 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017; Beyond Broke: Why Closing the Racial Wealth Gap is a Priority for National Economic Security; Massive Resistance: A Way Forward for Black America in the Wake of Trump and You Mad? Black Women, Work, and the Normalcy of Disrespect.
Dr. Avis’ distinct perspectives have been shared through a variety of media sources. Currently, she serves as a regular Contributor and Guest Host to TV One’s NewsOne Now with Roland Martin and PBS’ To the Contrary. She’s also been featured in a variety of additional media outlets including CNN, C-Span, BET, BBC, NPR, the Washington Post, the Atlantic and many more and serves as a contributor to The Huffington Post, Black Enterprise and NBC BLK. Currently, Dr. Avis serves on the Board of Directors of the Voter Participation Center, and Women’s Voices. Women’s Vote. She also serves as the Sr. Public Policy Advisor to the Black Women’s Roundtable, an Affiliated Scholar to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, and as a member of the Closing the Racial Gap Initiative.
