Charlene Macharia was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya for 16 years before moving to California in pursuit of the American dream. With the financial support of the Gates Millennium Scholars program she graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2013 and she is currently pursuing a Women and Leadership certificate, as well as a Masters in Education: Social Justice and Educational Leadership Track at Antioch University, Santa Barbara. She is always eager to acquire more knowledge and make connections to equip her to be a stronger voice and leader in the economic empowerment of women.
Charlene Macharia is the ALL Ladies League Santa Barbara Chapter chair and has represented California at the global Women’s Economic Forum in India for the past two years. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and currently works at UCSB as the Academic Initiatives Program Coordinator in the department of Student Affairs.

She is passionate about empowering people, especially women and youth of color, to embrace their God-given identity and to utilize their creative gifts and talents to channel healing and to build cross-cultural solidarity.

Charlene enjoys traveling, swimming, watching movies, hiking, singing, blogging and hanging out with family and friends.
