Aparna Sunku

Fashion Designer & Curator at Studio’A’ & Coimbatore

Coimbatore, India

Ms Aparna Sunku is an alumnus of St. Ann’s High School and of Kasturba Gandhi College, Secunderabad where she excelled in extracurricular activities. Crowned Miss Kasturba Inter in 1991, this all-rounder won best actor, best dancer and best Girl Guide. No wonder then that she was known by all for her sunny disposition.
Due to unexpected circumstances when she was just 16, she had to take over her father’s textile business where she quickly absorbed the skills required to be a feisty entrepreneur. Married at 19, Aparna then managed her husband’s business as an administrator. Her heart though was in fashion and her entrepreneurial spirit took her to open a successful collaborative boutique in Coimbatore eight years ago. When that shut, Studio A was born as her sole venture. With bespoke blouse designs that are trendy yet fit her client’s body type, Aparna has carved a niche in this fickle world of fashion. She was the first to introduce colour blocking in blouses, intricate patchwork, and quirky out-of-the-box combinations, among other trend-setting designs. Today she has fashion conscious clients from all over the world.
Aparna’s creative talents are in high demand not only for curating fashion shows but recently for jewellery as well; her latest being the one for Jaipur Jewels. Two years ago, her fashion show with the participants of the ‘Petite Princess’ contest was well appreciated. She was also a judge at the ‘Mom n I’ contest, along with a couple of fashion shows in colleges.
Apart from these, Aparna also gets invited as chief guest / guest of honour for quite a few public events like lifestyle and jewellery exhibitions.
In the midst of her family duties – she is the mother of two lovely daughters – she also manages to be in the limelight as event organizer and master of ceremonies.
An active member of FICCI Ladies Association (FLO) since 2008, Aparna’s views have been well appreciated by the audience and the media.
She strongly believes in empowering the girl child as has been educating two underprivileged girls from LKG – one is now doing her post graduation while the other, her under graduation.
Aparna is fond of travelling and hopes to see every nook and corner of the world. This year she had the chance to go the US on Rotary Club’s family exchange program.
