Aseem Chawla is a Partner, based out of New Delhi office of Phoenix Legal. He is India Bar Council member, Fellow Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, STEP member and is certificate holder of the Tax Policy program from Harvard Kennedy School.

Aseem’s experience includes advising large Indian and multinational corporate houses on tax matters, including international tax, inbound & outbound investment structuring & cross-border tax issues, and advising families on estate planning, inheritance & governance matters.

Aseem is actively involved in leadership capacity at various professional bodies & business chambers, and is regularly invited to various domestic & international fora and industries chambers. He is the Co-Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, India and the Vice-Chair of the India Committee & Asia Pacific Committee of the American Bar Association, Section of International Law (ABA) and recently, he has been appointed as Officer, ABA International Tax Committee. He is also the Officer of the Taxes Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). Aseem is the Vice Chair of Tax Committee of the Inter Pacific Bar Association (IPBA). He is the Regional Vice President of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) and the Co-Chairman of its Finance & Services Committee. He is Executive Committee member of the Bar Association of India & the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association, New Delhi. He has also been elected as the Joint General Secretary of Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF). He has been nominated to the Cost Accounting Standards Board (CASB) of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

Aseem has been consistently adjudged over the years, as one of the leading tax experts in the Asia Pacific Region by Chambers and Partners, Who’s Who Legal, Expert Guides, Legal 500,Asialaw Leading Lawyers, etc. He has also been identified among 40 leading Indian lawyers under 45. Aseem was featured in The Week magazine’s special coverage on young lawyers and has also been bestowed award of Young Achiever lawyer. Recently, his name finds mention in “100 Legal Luminaries of India” published by Lexis Nexis.

Aseem has several authorships to his credit, and has contributed in IFA Cahiers (Annual World Congress, 2013 Copenhagen) as country reporter for India on “Exchange of Information”. He is currently the Co-Editor of India Law News, a quarterly publication of ABA Section of International Law. His contribution has also been acknowledged in the Kanga &Palkhivala’s Income Tax Commentary, 10th Edition, an acclaimed treatise on Indian Income Tax laws. His views are often sought on contemporary tax and policy matters by the Print and Electronic media.
